Briton Andy Murray is through to the second-round of the US Open tennis championships after a comfortable win over Lukas Lacko of Slovakia.

In the sweltering heat of New York the British number one showed precision and power in dismantling the game of the Slovakian world number 71, 6-3 6-2 6-2.

Murray will next face Dustin Brown of Jamaica for a place in the third round.

"I managed to get through in straight sets so I'm pleased, but it was a lot tougher than the score suggests," said Murray.

Elsewhere in the men's draw, Czech Tomas Berdych fell to a shock defeat at the hands of French veteran Michael Llodra in straight sets. Llodra winning 7-6(3) 6-4 6-4.
