Roger Federer marches into third round

Five-time winner here in New York - Roger Federer confidently strolled into the third round with a straight-sets win over Andreas Beck of Germany.



Windy conditions did not hinder Federer who raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set before winning it 6-3.

Beck kept on battling but was not able to compete with Federer at the level needed to trouble the second seed and succumbed 6-3 6-4 6-3.

Serbian third seed Novak Djokovic also advanced to the thrid round but had a tougher time in defeating German Philipp Petzschner 7-5 6-3 7-6 (8-6).

Fifth seed Robin Soderling had few problems in his match - defeating American Taylor Dent 6-2 6-2 6-4.
