Gasquet ousts Davydenko at US Open
Frenchman Richard Gasquet showed signs of a return to form in defeating sixth-seed Nikolay Davydenko of Russia in the second round of the US Open tennis championships.
Davydenko was brushed aside by Gasquet who produced some fizzing backhand passing-shots along with a high first-serve percentage in just under 2 hours, winning 6-3 6-4 6-2.
Maran Cilic, the 11th seed also fell today in a long tussle with Japanese qualifier Kei Nishikori who won 5-7 7-6 (8-6) 3-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-1.
Nishikori, who put out Andy Roddick at Wimbledon this year was happy with his performance.
"I'm pretty tired of course," Nishikori said. "I was cramping from the second or third set but I kept fighting and fighting and that fourth set tie-break was key for me.
"It was a great match. It was hot but I am feeling great now."
