Nadal powers past Simon to make fourth round
Top seed Rafael Nadal of Spain emphatically booked his place in the last 16 of the 2010 US Open tennis championships with a comfortable straight-sets win over Giles Simon of France.
The 24-year-old Spaniard will next play compatriot Feliciano Lopez for a place in the quarter-finals.
"It was important to win without dropping a set," Nadal said. "Every day I seem to play much better which is good for my confidence.
The world number one, yet to reach the final here at Flushing Meadows served out the win in two hours 6-4 6-4 6-2.
Elsewhere, American Sam Querrey powered past 14th seed Nicolas Almagro, while 8th seed Fernando Verdasco enjoyed a win over David Nalbandian of Argentina.
Home favourite John Isner found Russian Mikhail Youzhny too tough to overcome, with the Russian 12th seed winning a tough battle in 4 sets 6-4 6-7 7-6 6-4.
