Serena Williams targets "early summer" return
Current Wimbledon Champion Serena Williams has told NBC she is hoping to make a return to the sport "early summer" after recoving from a blood clot on the lung.
"I love tennis and now more than anything I have so much to look forward to just playing, said the 29 year-old.
Swelling on her leg was the first sign that something was wrong.
"I could not breathe. I remember thinking, I'm walking but I cannot breathe. That forced me to the emergency room,"
"Luckily enough, I was able to catch it soon enough that my career won't be affected.
"I really just want to come back and do well."
Williams last played on court back in July of last year, defeating Russian Vera Zvonareva in the Wimbledon Final. She then suffered a cut to her foot in a restaurant whilst celebrating her fourth title at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. That injury proved more serious than first thought and forced her out of the game for the rest of the season and the Australian Open this year.
Williams is currently 11 in the WTA rankings.
