Djokovic unbeaten run continues with win in Madrid
Novak Djokovic of Serbia continued his unbeaten 2011 season with a routine 6-3 6-4 win over Kevin Anderson in Madrid on Wednesday.
The world number two was playing his first match here at the ATP Mutua Madrid Open after receiving a bye in the first round and he was in dominant form with too much in his arsenal for his South African opponent.
Djokovic wrapped up the match after one hour and 40 minutes to move into the third round.
"I am just taking each match at a time and hoping I can win," said Djokovic after the match.
"It's kind of a surprise but I always believed that I have the quality to beat any player.
"I am a more mature player and I have more self-belief which is very important for this level."
He is joined in the third round by fifth seed Robin Soderling of Sweden who defeated Santiago Giraldo of Columbia in straight sets 6-3 6-3.
Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro was also a winner on Wednesday after he allayed his hip injury fears in a comprehensive 6-3 6-0 victory over Marin Cilic of Croatia.
Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray will also play their second round matches on Wednesday here at the ATP Mutua Madrid Open.
