World number five Victoria Azarenka put paid to rising German star Julia Goerges hopes of a second clay court title this season by comfortably winning their semi-final 6-4 6-2.

Goerges managed to stay with Azarenka initially but a single break of serve was enough for the Belarusian to take the first set.

Azarenka broke twice more in the second to secure victory.

"I had to be the one dominating the game and not her because she has really big shots and when she goes for it it's tough to see where she's going and it comes really fast," said Azarenka after the match.

In the day's other semi-final Petra Kvitova produced powerful and precise tennis to defeat this year’s Australian Open runner up Li Na of China 6-3 6-1.
