The three all enjoyed comfortable straight set victories over their opponents to advance. Former top 10 player Daniela Hantuchova defeated Italian Romina Oprandi 7-5 6-1 in just over two hours and will play 2nd-seed Francesca Schiavone in the third round.
World number one Caroline Wozniacki demolished Russian opponent Anastasia Rodionova, reeling off 10 straight games from 2-all in the first set to advance in one hour 11 minutes 6-2 6-0.
"It took me a while to get into my game but once I did, I played well the rest of the match," said Wozniacki after the match. "The first match of a tournament is always hard so I'm glad to have gotten through it today."
Former world number one Jelena Jankovic gained revenge over Czech Lucie Safarova by winning their match 6-0 6-3. Jankovic succumbed to Safarova at the same stage in last week's Madrid tournament.
"I got my revenge as one would call it," said Jankovic. "She played really well last week and I was expecting a tough match. I was prepared. I served well against her last week, but I wasn't able to break her even though I had a lot of chances. This time I managed to do that. I also didn't give away many free points. She gave me a lot of trouble in Madrid but this week I did better."
Another former world number one did not fare as well, Ana Ivanovic lost over three sets to Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium 6-2 6-7(4-7) 3-6 in a close encounter.
Other winners on day three included Victoria Azarenka, Li Na and Greta Arn.
