Andy Murray recovers to reach Rome semi-finals
Andy Murray is into the semi-finals of the ATP Rome Masters with a three-set victory over Florian Mayer of Germany.
The British number one recovered from a slow start against Mayer to triumph in one hour and 36 minutes 1-6 6-1 6-1.
28th-ranked Mayer started the stronger of the two and with some inspired play and helped with a few errors from Murray, took the first set comfortably.
Murray stepped up his game in the second and put pressure on Mayer's serve at every opportunity, winning 64 percent of the points on Mayer's first serve. The Scot broke serve 4 times in the second set to take it 6-1 and to force a decider.
Murray did not let up the pressure on Mayer in the third and raced to a 3-1 lead. From there Mayer's game began to unravel and Murray raced into the semi-finals, sealing the win with a crosscourt forehand that left Mayer standing.
Murray now goes on to face either Novak Djokovic or Robin Soderling in the semi-finals.
