Djokovic will be looking to continue his impressive run that began in November 2010 and has seen him win his last 39 matches, picking up 7 titles along the way including the Australian Open in January.
The Serbian has been in incredible form and has comfortably dispatched all of his peers along the way. 24-year-old Djokovic has surprised many and has been particularly impressive in his clay court victories over world number one Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic begins his campaign against Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker on Monday.
2009 champion Roger Federer is the third seed here at Roland Garros this year and he has a tricky opening match against Spanish clay-courter Feliciano Lopez. The two players met recently in Madrid with Federer just managing to squeeze past Lopez in a tie-breaker third set.
With Djokovic and Nadal stealing all the headlines, discussions about Federer winning the title again here are rare and that is something the former world number one insists he is ok with, stating that "(people) expect more from Rafa and Novak, and that could be a good thing for me".
The women's draw is as wide open as has ever been this year in Paris and current world number one Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark will begin her quest for a first Grand Slam title on Monday when she takes on Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan.
Date-Krumm has stunned many in the tennis world by returning to tour action in 2008 at the age of 37 after originally retiring back in 1996. Currently ranked 56 in the world Date-Krumm will have to work hard against Wozniacki to try and emulate the success she had here in Paris last year when she defeated Dinara Safina in the first round.
Defending champion Francesca Schiavone of Italy begins her title defence on Monday and will open proceedings on Court Philippe Chatrier against American teenager Melanie Oudin.
British players Anne Keothavong and Heather Watson are also in action on Monday, with Keothavong taking on Vesna Dolonts and Watson up against wildcard Stephanie Foretz Gacon.
