Kvitova slow out of the blocks against Dushevina - was down 0-2 - but now 3-2 up with a break.

Her cross court DHBH is looking pretty lethal.

Anyone else find the new IBM slamtracker scoreboard too much of a good thing? Especially the new "momentum" indicator which I like to think I can work out for myself if I've been watching another useful stat called "the score".

Yes, I was going to comment on it yesterday. The frills are a bit unnecessary especially when quite a lot of the stats (W and UE, net approaches) need to be taken with a pinch of salt as it is!

I've heard of "The Score"..

It's something that the Aus Open App failed to give in the WTA Qualifying matches - it showed only the ATP matches..

Just checked out slamtracker. At first look it is quite odd. The momentum-o-meter is just daft. Points won is handy, I guess - but that is usually kicking about already..

I suspect they've added all that stuff just because they can rather than because there was any demand for it.

Meanwhile, not the most convincing service game from Kvitova but she consolidates the break and is looking good at 6-2 2-0.

Edit - which will have to do for me for tonight!

Dushevina is being even more useless than normal.

a close first set between Stosur and Cirstea, but Cirstea wins the tie-break, hopefully Stosur can step it up a bit in the second set

Cirstea beat Stosur 7-6 (7-2) 6-3, this will be the biggest news story of the day, but it was not too much of a shock given the way Stosur has played this year, Cirstea was always going to be tougher than some gave her credit for, I guess we just hoped Stosur would be able to get up for the Aussie Open.
Cirstea played well, Stosur was not near her best, she did not play bad exactly, just nowhere near the form that won her the US Open

I predicted Stosur to go out in the first round in BOTP. She's a player that generally seems to need a few matches under her belt to get into rhythm, which she hasn't had this year. She seems to have felt the pressure worse than ever down under, which is perhaps not surprising.

Sharapova demolished Dulko 6-0,6-1, which would suggest she's much sharper than most people would expect.

As US open champ, Sam was no doubt feeling a bit of pressure of expectation. She wants success in Australia too much, I would think.

Wow - a Grand Slam win sandwiched between two R1 losses. I didn't expect Stosur to get too far through the draw but I thought she'd at least defend her R3 points.

Sharapova demolishes Dulko 60 61 who seems content being a doubles specialist these days.

Yep, I don't want to take too much credit away from Stosur but you kind of feel the only reason she was able to play so well in the US Open final was because of who her opponent was. If she'd gone into the match as the favourite against a lesser player she would probably have managed to lose it.

Meanwhile Ivanovic is currently leading 6-0, 3-3 in her match.

I had Sam out in R3 so no big damage in BOTP, but I confess I'm surprised she went out quite so quickly.

Glad to see Sharapova on song as I've been (still am) very nervous about picking her to make the semis.
