Good to see the WTA matches getting some pretty decent slots in the schedule, on the bigger courts.

What a great moment for Greta Arn - playing on Rod Laver Arena against Serena Williams in the first of the evening matches! hope that she doesn't get too nervous about this..

A good set of r3 matchups, I would say..

I suspect it's because this side of the men's draw doesn't have quite the crowd-pulling quality of the other side, despite Nole's supremacy, and quite a few of the men's matches tonight look like mismatches.

Still, as you say, some excellent women's matchups - although like you I fear for Arn, that one could take about 50 minutes.
All just set to record alas as I need an early (OK earlier) night.

very long first game but Kvitova eventually breaks Kirilenko's serve

Eurosport really seem to do everything they can to NOT televise Kvitova! For some reason, Lisicki vs. Voegele was on ES1 while Kvitova was on ES2 and for some reason which I can't fathom, they are showing Errani vs. Cirstea instead of Kvitty vs. Makiri!

Having said that Cirstea is playing really well and she's already hit a brace of BH DTL winners. She seems to be playing a bit more patiently too instead of smacking everything as hard as she can which I think is helping too.

Kvitova is on fire - 5-0 up in first set, and has hit 16 winners.

Kiri offcourt with trainer right now.

Kvitova 6-0, commentators are really upset about Kirilenko going off court,
I can understand them being sceptical but is she known for fake medical breaks coz they seem to be a bit over the top with their hating

Kirilenko has retired. GSM Petra, 6-0, 1-0.

It wouldn't have lasted too much longer anyway, by the looks of things.

Wow - Cirstea is pumped up for this match - screaming after every point that she loses, and fistpumps after points that she wins!

The BH DTL of hers is wonderful..

Serena won 6-1, 6-1.

She stepped it up in the couple of danger moments she faced, but it was a pretty average performance from Serena. Her first serve percentage was pretty poor, so hopefully she's saving herself up for next week!

Arn seemed to miss almost every time she had an open court or an opportunity to finish the point.

It was a shame Cirstea injured her back at 2-0 in the second set because it was shaping up to be a very good match. She needed a lot of treatment and she was struggling with the serve and movement but the third set was still more tightly contested than the scoreline indicates. Errani played a really good match though.
