Looking forward to Fran against Venus, I'm torn like Nevets though.
I would like Querrey and Wawrinka to just finish and go away so I can watch before bedtime, their tedious bashathon is taking an unforgivably long time.

I hope Fran will win but expect Venus will win this one, she just has too much firepower for her on a fast hardcourt.

Venus is 3-2 up with a break in the first set

UE by Fran sets up Set Point for Vee, another error Vee takes the first set.

PHEW... i think Vee should win the 2nd set comfortably now, hope her serves pick up

Venus takes the first set in the tiebreaker. Venus has been a bit hit and miss if the first serve hasn't gone in and the return hasn't been particularly great either. I wouldn't say Schiavone is playing brilliantly either but she's playing with good depth and trying not to give Venus too many mid-court balls to feed off. She made a couple of wonderful volley winners in the tiebreak though.

First set Venus 7-6(5) - Fran fought back superbly in the TB but a couple of misses undid her. Venus on her way through now I think.

Can't stay up alas.

well i was wrong not a easy 2nd set.

Vee wins 76(5) 64. Vee stormed to a 41 lead only to be taken back to 43. Served for the match at 53 got broken, and then broke Franny, taking it on her 1st MP.
Well done to her only her 2nd SF after her run of 3 finals at the US way back in the day!

Soo glad Venus won, I really didn't think she would given her dreadful quarter final record in recent years. I don't think she played too bad, though obviously there is room for improvement. Winning her third tiebreak at this year's US Open, which has to be good for confidence.

She'll face Kim, who beat Stosur 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Apparently it was a fairly error-strewn match with 15 breaks of serve!

You'd have to make Kim the favourite, but Venus certainly has a chance.

I wonder if it was as bad as the Chakvetadze vs. Kuznetsova semi-final from the 2007?

I thought Venus played well in the second set but she really needs to improve her second-serve return. There was a service game when Venus pretty much dumped all of Fran's serves into the bottom of the net! Venus's return is a bit of a bluff because she takes an aggressive stance inside the baseline but doesn't do an awful lot with it.

Win it all now, Venus!

Yeah, I have to agree with that statement, Serena's return is much better. Venus will always hit a few very good returns a match but not consistently, although occasionally she has a very good return of serve match. I remember her playing a match against Pavlyuchenkova in Dubai a couple of years ago and she was really on the return that day, hitting a lot of winners off the first and second serve.

At the moment from what I've seen you'd have to make Wozniacki the favourite based on play so far. Venus and Kim are just too inconsistent so far to punch enough holes in her defence.
