Esporta Health and Racquets Clubs will give every new tennis member that joins before the tournament’s first match on June 20th a share of up to £250,000 worth of waived fees should Murray end 75 years of British hurt at the Championships.
Not since Fred Perry in 1936 has a Brit taken the men’s singles title, and Esporta is hoping to re-ignite the UK’s passion for the game by incentivising the country to take up tennis and back homegrown talent at the same time.
Clubs throughout the country will also be running special member events for each of Murray’s matches – creating ‘Murray Mounts’ as viewing areas, serving complimentary strawberries and cream and even furnishing spectators with fun Murray masks to really get into the spirit of the occasion.
Mark Taylor, commercial director at Esporta, said: “Tennis is a key part of what we do and we are now working closely with the LTA to help support the growth of the sport in this country – key to that is getting people excited about the sport which is why we are proud to throw our weight behind Andy.
“We know from research that there are loads of people out there that are interested by tennis but have never given themselves the push needed to take it up and get involved. Now they have a reason.
“If Andy wins they will receive six full months of free racquets memberships, so by February 2012 they may be in position to win some tournaments themselves!
“Esporta and the LTA want Wimbledon to be the platform for people to really fall in love with tennis, and we will be holding massive Andy Murray parties should he reach the final on July 3rd.
“As with 1966 it will be a case of ‘where were you when Murray won Wimbledon’ – the answer could be at my health club celebrating a free membership!”
